The name originates from the boggy land around Filzmoos. The Gosaukamm with its imposing markanten Bischofsmütze mountain (2.458 m) belongs to the Dachstein range. The southern and western parts of the village belong to the Salzburg slate Alps. The people of Filzmoos have preserved much to date including their beliefs, culture, community spirit and hospitality. They are safeguarded by their religious figure of the „Filzmoos Child“.
