MARIANNE EWALDT

Ever since I began my artistic career (as a ceramicist in 1972), my greatest wish has been for my intellectual and spiritual journey to become one with my creative work and artistic expression.
Until I met Nigel Pennick at a workshop in 1992, I was familiar with the term ‘labyrinth’, but I had not yet grasped the depth of this symbol. Through my engagement with the labyrinth, many insights into the human journey have come to me as if in a dream from my soul.

I almost always incorporate the labyrinth as the central theme in my various exhibitions, in order to make this wonderful principle of order – the labyrinth – accessible to people for the healing of body, mind and soul.
Mental knowledge or theory alone does not guarantee healing. In my view, access to the emotional level must be integrated through experience. Only this is the prerequisite and foundation for holistic healing.
This prompts me not only to create ceramic labyrinth works, but also to construct walk-through labyrinths in public spaces.
