Filzmoos, the Mountain Village with Heart
Heribert Klein, PR boss of the Commerzbank, Germany and unrelenting motor for the United Nations' Childrens' Charity for nearly 30 years had a great idea whilst on one of his many holidays in the mountain resort of Filzmoos. At the Unterhofalm he watched the well-known wood carver, Stefan Gappmaier, carve a wooden heart. On the spur of the moment he asked Stefan to produce 101 hearts for his UNICEF project.
Sponsors from all walks of life, famous people, actors, but also ordinary folk like "you or I" were found for the brightly painted hearts. More hearts made by Filzmoos carpenters and painted by the primary school children followed.
Many Filzmoos locals, hoteliers and an array of local businesses kindly sponsored a heart for Euro 30.00 each.
The names of each artist and sponsor are engraved on each individual UNICEF heart.
We would be pleased to hear from you if you would like to sponsor a heart too.
